Ann Fales
Ann Fales was born and raised in British Columbia. She grew up with an appreciation of the skills in fine needlework derived from her Danish family at a very early age.
Ann earned a B.A. in Anthropology (University of Washington) and an M.A. and Ph.D in Adult Education and Adult Development and Aging (University of Chicago). She taught at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education for nine years and trained as a marriage and family therapist during that time. From 1980 to 1995 she worked in Belleville as a marriage and family therapist where she was deeply involved with many creative people, organized creativity workshops, and explored a range of creative outlets. In 1994, she saw a quilted wall-hanging, was inspired to learn quilting, and has never looked back.
In 1995, she and her life partner, Dave, went to British Columbia for three years as winter caretakers of a floating fishing lodge. It was there that Ann discovered her next “career” as a fibre artist. Since returning to Thomasburg, Ann has developed her skills and artistic vision through active participation in the local and international visual and fibre arts communities. Her works are included in many private collections.
Ann has taken advanced studies in quilting design, exhibited her work in many shows and has received many awards. She is a member of Quinte Arts Council, Quinte Fibre Artists, Tweed and Area Studio Tour, Stirling Fine Artist, Quinte Quilters’ Guild, Canadian Quilting Association, Prince Edward County Quilters’ Guild and is a current member of Gallery One-Twenty-One.
