Dona Knudsen
Dona Knudsen has worked in a variety of media over the years but has always been most interested in colour. Currently she is working primarily in watercolours. She finds her subject matter in nature and, in particular, her garden. Texture is becoming a strong component of any piece she creates. Dona also enjoys experimenting with perspective as a way of forcing the viewer to look again. She loves the art deco period, and those forms also influence her work.
Dona’s self-taught artistic abilities are a reflection of her 31 years of teaching art to elementary students. She was the arts curriculum coordinator for the Hastings County Board of Education for eight year and also worked on the Ministry of Education arts curriculum teams. She has participated in a variety of arts workshops through Loyalist College and Queens University.
Her recent exhibitions include the Belleville Art Association Juried art Shows, in 2006, in 2007(Honourable Mention), in 2008(when she received another award), and in 2009. Also in 2009, her work was shown in the Belleville Public Library Gallery Juried Show “Portals”. As an active member of the Belleville Art Association and Gallery One-Twenty-One, her work may be seen there on a regular basis, as well as at the Belleville Hospital.
Currently, Dona is president of the Belleville Art Association.
